Spa etiquette

Relaxing at a spa is one of life’s little pleasures. Time spent away from everyday life whilst having yourself pampered from head to toe is a must for everyone once in a while! The important thing to remember though, is that we’re all sharing the same space and want to have the same relaxing experience.

So, we’ve put together a handy little guide on spa etiquette to help those on their first spa experience and as a reminder to those spa pros…

Arrive at the spa early

Most spas require you to fill in a small health questionnaire or one that is related to your treatment. So to ensure you don’t miss out on any spa time and are ready for your treatment, arrive 15 minutes early. This will also give you time to explore the spa facilities and get changed for your relaxing day.

Dress appropriately

It’s a good idea to wear loose comfortable clothing for your spa day. Bring clean clothes you can get into after your spa as well, you don’t want to put back on dirty clothes after your relaxing day. We’ve put together a handy blog on what to wear to a spa for more information.

Shower beforehand

Showering before a spa is a great way to feel refreshed and clean for your upcoming treatment. You can shower at home but there will be shower facilities at your spa, so might as well make use of that whilst you’re there! Showering also helps to open your pores and prepares your skin for your upcoming treatment.

Communicate with your therapist

As part of your treatment, your therapist might ask you about any particular areas that need attention or if you have any health concerns. Tell them what areas you are having trouble with and don’t hesitate to ask for pressure adjustments during your massage if necessary, they won’t mind!

Disconnect from the outside

Listening to people on their phones or watching videos can be distracting for spa users. So make the most of your time away from the modern world and leave your phone in the locker. That way you can truly disconnect and relax for a few hours.

Respect others

Other spa-goers will be enjoying the facilities whilst you are there. They will want to relax as much as you, so respect personal space and try to keep any conversions to a minimum so everyone can enjoy their time without being disrupted.

And most importantly, relax!

And probably the most important spa etiquette rule is to relax and enjoy yourself! You’ve earned this treat, so make the most of the spa facilities, the time to yourself and the relaxing treatment before you go back to normality!
